Take a look at Netvibes.com. It’s a “custom” home page. This means that you can customize it like you’ve used to do with Google: add your feeds, your search engines, your notes… or even take a look at the weather!
Netvibes.com is a customizable web 2.0 homepage solution
This service is free and gives you the user the ability:
- to create a personalized page with the content you like.
- to put together data feeds and services from web 2.0 applications with a very simple interface.
- to access your page anytime and from any computer.
Key features of Netvibes:
- Browse, modify, and import your RSS feeds with our integrated RSS/ATOM feedreader. You can easily import an OPML file as well.
- Import, download and listen to podcasts without any additional software
- Check your e-mail on one or many Gmail accounts; stick web notes and weather updates; and many more features to come!
Looks promising.
Netvibes is a start-up company founded by Florent Fremont and Tariq KRIM. We are based in Paris and specialize in Web 2.0 applications.
These folks recently added some new features: as you can see from the pic above, now you can import your bookmarks too. And tag ‘em! Amazing stuff. Great way for remotely storing your precious bookmarks and feeds (like I do with Pluck btw)
Ajax web based applications can exchange data too… and this is the case: Writely! This is a recent feature on Netvibes but it’s stunning. Writely lets you write documents directly from the web… like if you were using some expensive word processing software. Then you can save it online, export it in doc or zip format… and it’s collaborative too! This means that you can write stuff collaborating with someone else. Stunning service. Oh… did I say that it’s free too?
Well then, if you got an account on writely you can simply put your login info in the Writely box and add it to the netvibes custom home page!
To use the module you need to be a Writely user. The module is quite similar to what we’ve done with the Gmail module. Use the edit button to enter your Writely account information’s and your documents are just one click away!
We’re seeing incredible stuff from Netvibes at a speed rate that’s… impressive! I’m really excited as services like del.icio.us, flock, netvibes, flickr, pluck and others continue to appear. It’s a sweet revolution we’re goin’ through.
The World Wide Web is dead, long live the World Wide Web!
