As the true geek you are, you should have an iPod. Now… I’d like to ask you one question: what can you do with your iPod color? Woah… surely you can listen to some music and store some data in it. You can even watch photos… You can use it as an external HDD. Yeah cool… but is that all?. If you thought yes you better think again. Check out the gameboy emulator for the 4G iPod and by the way check out the whole iPodLinux site. You’ll even find information on how to play videos (with sound) on your portable-evil-white-gadget!

Now think what you can do with the processing power of a PSP… with it’s wide display… with it’s PC connectivity… and with some “power user’s skill”. Cannot imagine anything but watching some backed up movie? Dude… you need to go and watch psp-news.dcemu.co.uk. Do you remember the old “homebrew” movement? Well then… this is the opportunity for the “community” to start all over again.
It seems like the PSP is quite hackable and it’s going to be fun! There is an Apple II emulator, a NES emulator, a PDF reader, a radio… hell yeah! That stuff is really amazing! And they found out that the 2.0 firmware is hackable too (by the way you can downgrade to a 1.5 firmware now… just go to the previously mentioned site to find out more)
iPod, PSP… but wait… I’ve heard of another portable tool
The GP2X is a Linux Based, USB 2.0 handheld… look I don’t even know how to call it! Console? PC? Dunno… anyway it even runs DooM and Qauke and since it’s linux based it will have TONS of custom software for it! It’s a paradise for the homebrew scene! We could see every kind of app/game running on it.
Obviously you can view pics and play mp3s… and you can even watch movies (wmv and divx) on it or on your TV set via the TV out cable. You can play MAME games on it (oh my god I’m goin’ insane on this one!) or… whatever! read this:

It’s open. You want to develop your own games for the GP2X? Go right ahead. The SDK is included with the system free. Not since the days of the Amiga has a system been so easy to develop for, commercially and for fun.
The GP2X isn’t just another wannabe be Gameboy. Its a whole different design. A whole new idea for a handheld games system.

I must say I am a (super) geek and I don’t own an iPod :P
In fact, the only iPod that would made me spend that money is the iPod Nano, which I didn’t buy because it has many flaws…

About the PSP, I really want to have one… It’s the most powerful gadget of the last decades, it’s really more than a simple gaming and/or entertainment system!
I didn’t know about the ‘GP2X’. I mean, I’ve heard things about a portable Linux system but I didn’t know it was a reality by now (stupid me, I think).
When I saw it here I was instantly motivated to buy one. But then I thought: shouldn’t I have to know Linux and dominate it to take 100% of the GP2X?
This is a really interesting subject, it really pumps me up. I am such a geek… :P
