Thousands of readers can be wrong

A Dreamer, a Photographer, a Musician, a Webdesigner... sometimes a Java coder too: I am Niccolò Favari and this blog is about New Media, Creativity, Business, Communication, Entrepreneurship and lots more. Boring stuff indeed, because I am a very boring dude.

Well, what's the point? I have no point. I just keep writing. And it feels good.

Pluck - the #1 browser-based RSS reader

You all know what RSS is all about. I’m quite sure that you also know how to use those feeds… either with your software reader (Feeddemon, Feedreader…) or with some online services (such as Bloglines or Newgator). You may be using feeds on your site as well.

Pluck

Now, I’ve found this little firefox extension called Pluck! To tell the truth there is an IE edition and a Web Edition too but I’m stuck with the Firefox ed. because I’m so addicted to the mozilla’s toy that I don’t even care about the other versions! (ok dudes, I’ve tried the Web Version too and it rocks!). Firefox used to support feeds in the form of Live Bookmarks but to tell the truth I did not like it.

Take a look at the screenshot of Pluck here:

Pluck

Neat and Clean enough uh? It can import your OPML file and start refreshing your feeds in the firefox sidebar. Then you can view your favourite news in the browser page (or open them in new tabs).

Pluck RSS Reader Features

  • RSS Aggregator & Bookmark Manager: Pluck’s award-winning RSS reader delivers your favorite news or blog postings, plus your browser bookmarks.
  • FeedFinder: An integrated RSS feed directory and updated FeedFinder search engine help you find new sources quickly and easily.
  • Automatic Synchronization: Access your RSS feeds and bookmarks across all versions of Pluck with a single account.

It also has a nice Bookmarklet (I love these little stuff):

By adding the Pluck bookmarklet to your browser, you can subscribe to RSS feeds with a single click. When you’re on a page you want to subscribe to, just click on the bookmarklet and Pluck will add the site to your folders.

Integration with firefox is perfect. When you start using it, you can’t stop.

You can also import all of your bookmarks into the pluck account. Personally I LOVE this feauture because you don’t have to synch the bookmark’s file anymore among your firefox installations (or portable firefox that is…). Imagine all your bookmarks and feeds in one safe, remote place!

Awesome stuff… and the web-based version is pretty much the same. Using some new technology (Ajax?) you have the illusion of being using a software rather than a website! This is not quite like bloglines nor newsgator. Though we’re talking about the same kind of services, Pluck seems way better than the competitors. They invested so much into “integration” that with a single account you can use all the three versions of the service… and it will be like using always the same platform.

Subscribe, read, synchronize and search your feeds while never leaving your favourite browser software.

[...] These folks recently added some new features: as you can see from the pic above, now you can import your bookmarks too. And tag ‘em! Amazing stuff. Great way for remotely storing your precious bookmarks and feeds (like I do with Pluck btw) [...]
